Identification of Species in Processed/Composite Fish/ Seafood Products using DNA-Based Techniques

Abstract:
This project has advanced fish species identification with the generation of DNA-based methods which can easily be adopted by the food industry or public analysts. This project has also allowed a significant collection of authentic fish samples to be collected, with this species library held at Rowett, The project has allowed techniques to quantitate fish species in complex food products to be investigated. Unfortunately these investigations have indicated that PCR-based approaches to address this issue are unsatisfactory and alternative approaches must be considered for future research projects
